Ukraine will be represented at one of the world’s most important international events dedicated to scenography — PQ: Prague Quadrennial — with the Ukrainian Pavilion “For Freedom. In Process…”.
The creation of the Ukrainian Pavilion has received the support of the Ukrainian state. Thanks to the initiative of the president of Tysyachovesna, our team will have the opportunity to represent Ukraine at this major international event and introduce audiences to the contemporary Ukrainian scenographic scene, its practices, questions, and artistic perspectives.
“For Freedom. In Process…” is more than an exhibition project. It is a space for reflecting on freedom as something living, ongoing, and constantly evolving. Freedom is not something that can simply be taken for granted. It is something that must be defended, reimagined, experienced, and created every day.
Contemporary Ukrainian scenography is developing under extraordinary historical circumstances. The experience of war, loss and resistance, the transformation of everyday life, and the urgent need to continue creating all shape the language of Ukrainian theatre and visual art today.
Scenography becomes much more than the visual environment of a performance. It becomes a way of documenting reality, preserving memory, asking difficult questions, and creating spaces for conversation. It allows artists to respond to the present while searching for new forms through which Ukraine can speak to the world.
Taking part in the Prague Quadrennial gives Ukraine an important opportunity to enter into an international artistic dialogue, to present the processes currently shaping Ukrainian culture, and to demonstrate how deeply art and culture are connected to identity, resilience, and freedom.
Behind the Ukrainian Pavilion stands a large community of artists, curators, producers, partners, and supporters — everyone who believed in the project, contributed to its development, and helped make Ukraine’s participation possible.
Special thanks to Anna Dukhovychna, Liliia Voloshyna, and everyone who has supported the creation of the Ukrainian Pavilion and continues to work with us along this journey.
There is still a great deal of work ahead: research, preparation, production, collaboration, countless conversations, decisions, and discoveries. But already, we have something essential — the opportunity to represent Ukraine on an international stage and to speak about freedom in our own voice.
The Ukrainian Pavilion “For Freedom. In Process…” is about a Ukraine that continues to create. About a culture that refuses to stop. About art that remains a space for dialogue and resistance. And about freedom — understood not as a finished state, but as an ongoing process.
We are grateful to everyone who has supported this journey.
The work continues. Together.
